Careers Library Enhancement

Workington Academy wished to start creating videos about various careers pathways and educational routes into those careers to share with pupils, parents and carers via social media.

In order to do this the school bid for funds to purchase equipment which would allow them to create and edit the videos before uploading them. The videos are uploaded monthly throughout the school year with a different focus each month.

The academic year kicked off with careers in health and has recently been followed up by careers in STEM. Videos cover all the basics and will be a very useful asset for parents, carers and young people who are trying to navigate their way through all the careers information available. Content includes degree apprenticeships, university degrees, skills building, interviews and work experience.

In order to facilitate pupils accessing these videos, plus other key resources pupils may need when thinking about accessing Level 4 and above study, the school also bid for funds to purchase five tablet computers for the schools’ careers library. The careers team plan to take small groups of identified students to use the tablets and have started with Years 11 and 13 to look at future options and progression routes. This will allow those target students who lack adequate technology at home to receive the same benefits as their peers.
