Carlisle College have delivered events for parents and carers of young people in Years 9 – 13, to assist them in supporting their children to make informed choices.
The project started in January 2018 and has provided IAG (Information, Advice and Guidance) for parents and carers through workshops and interactive taster events for young people and their parents and carers.
A resource pack has been created which includes presentations and activities which have been delivered at the National Citizen Service Graduation, school open evenings in Carlisle, Copeland Skills Fair, Inspira progression events, Upperby Gala and College open days.
The college has engaged with over 300 CCOP parents as part of the project. Responding to feedback from parents and carers, the college is now producing an online learning resource with easy to understand text and modules covering a range of topics such as: myth busting, jargon busting, finance, UCAS, how to make the most of open days, living away from home, progression routes and careers and aspiration.
