This project aims to:
- Promote the value of HE
- Highlight the different routes to HE, including which FE courses carry UCAS points
- Produce case studies of students who took the FE route to HE
- Showcase the range of employment opportunities within West Cumbria, based on local market intelligence and Cumbria LEP (Local Enterprise Partnership) priorities
In the academic year 2017/18 we made three attempts at hosting events for parents and carers. Two of these were specific events directed solely at parents and carers, which were unfortunately cancelled due to lack of interest – the third event, a more general HE open evening, did attract a small number of parents and carers and we were able to discuss HE as a progression route.
A final event, hosted on 15th November, aimed to make HE more accessible for parents, carers and learners; introducing topics such as local universities, student finance, choosing universities and writing personal statements.
There were opportunities to talk to team members from Hello Future, Inspira and the college team to understand more about funding available and the benefits of studying at university. The college team discussed higher apprenticeships and the differences between these and traditional HE programmes.
