The Bay Health & Care Partners Careers & Engagement team and the University of Cumbria developed a network of local learners to attend events and deliver workshops to inspire young people to consider further education and higher education pathways in the NHS; showcasing their course and representing their institution, and the NHS, at events. We wanted to provide CCOP learners with inspiring role models who bring a wide set of skills, knowledge and experiences to dispel myths and raise aspirations.
The Ambassadors attend and support events; contribute to the creation of supporting materials; share their experiences of studying via social media, and plan and deliver bespoke workshops in schools. So far we have recruited four Ambassadors on the following courses: Health & Social Care (at Newton Rigg College), Midwifery (at the University of Cumbria), Biomedical Science (at Lancaster University) and Healthcare Science Associate Apprenticeship (at Kendal College).
The Bay Health & Care Partners Careers & Engagement team are also purchasing resources for workshops with CCOP learners to raise aspirations and inspire them to consider higher-level education and careers in the Health Sector. The resources include virtual reality headsets to transport learners into places such as on an Air Ambulance, or inside the human body; t-shirts covered in QR codes which, when viewed through a smartphone’s camera, provide a view inside the human body; choking rescue trainer vests; mobile class manikins to teach CPR; a full body suit which gives the wearer an understanding of the difficulties faced by people with limited mobility, and much more! These will be used at CCOP schools and large events such as the Blue Light events that take place across Cumbria.
