This year has been different for us all as we begin to adapt to a “new normal”. Over the past few months, our team have been working hard (together but apart, of course) to create our new programme of online activities and events. While we may not physically be in schools and colleges across the Autumn Term, we’re continuing our mission to support young people Cumbria make well-informed decisions about their future.

This blog will explain how we’re making our move into the big wide cyberspace, and how you might get involved!

E-Learning Courses

This October, we have launched our brand new E-Learning Courses on our website. In total, there are 5 courses available:

  • Identifying Your Strengths
  • Understanding Your Options
  • Studying Effectively
  • Research
  • Preparing for Life After School

Interactive and informative, our courses will help learners develop valuable skills and knowledge to help them pursue their future goals in education and employment! Our courses are completely free, and will be available throughout the academic year. You can access them via the ‘Our Courses’ page.

Online Mentoring

Instant messaging with a twist! Focussing on Year 12 & 13, and Level 3 (Year 1 & 2) learners, our new mentoring programme will offer the opportunity for our target learners to receive information, advice and guidance about their next steps via our live chat function.

Delivered by our Graduate Interns and facilitated by our schools and colleges, the mentoring programme will also blend with bespoke videos from mentors and physical resource packs.

Chat with Us!

While our Mentoring programme is targeted at specific schools and learners, you can still talk to a member of our team about your next steps via our live chat function – available at any time!

All you need to do is click the pop-up in the bottom right-hand corner. You can check out our team profiles and browse our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) about all things higher education!

Study Skills E-Learning Portal

Working in partnership with MADE Training, we will continue to host our ‘Study Skills’ portal on our website. Made up of bite-sized videos, two themes will be covered:

  • Effective Note-Taking & Mind-Mapping
  • Improve Your Memory

The portal will be available for on our website until February 28th, 2021. To access it, all you need to do is drop us a message with your school name, and we can give you your bespoke login details!

The Lockdown Hub

Created in partnership with Furness College, the lockdown hub is led by students, for students; encouraging young people to learn new skills, develop resilience and stay connected!

From CV-writing to cooking a Chilli Con Carne, the website hosts a variety of guides, challenges, blogs and resources for learners to immerse themselves in. The hub also offers useful resources to support welfare and mental health, including multi-media sources and useful contacts.

You can access this by checking out their website linked above!

Hello Future Expo 2020

Don’t let travel restrictions stop you from exploring what’s on offer locally, we’re going to help you discover them from the comfort of your own home! This year, we are excited to be hosting our first virtual event: ‘Cumbria’s FE & HE Virtual Opportunities Fair’.

In November, we will be bringing our partner Further Education, Higher Education and Skills providers to you. Much like a face-to-face fair, every organisation will have their own booth where you will be able to find out more information about their offer, and ask questions via a live chat function. There will also be a variety of virtual presentations and talks.

The fair will be accessible to learners, parents, carers, teachers and advisers.

When is it? Saturday 28th November 2020
What time?
