Health progression routes

This section explores health specific progression routes and highlights the variety of subjects and courses involved in the health profession.

There are many courses and subjects that fall under the health profession. For example in terms of further education you could study health and social care in college or as an apprenticeship.

In terms of higher education, you can study a range of different university courses such as:

  • University of Cumbria: BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care, Mental Health Nursing, Midwifery
  • Lancaster University: BSc (Hons) Social Work

There is also the option to do a higher or degree apprenticeship such as:

  • Lakes College: Level 4 Lead Practitioner in Adult Care Standard

Transferable skills you might gain through progression routes related to health include empathy, communication, and organisation.

When thinking about health-related progression routes it is important to consider bursaries that might be available. For example, the NHS nursing bursary. For more information follow this link: NHS Bursaries: Overview
